I often reflect on how the holy Prophet stood in deep prayers inside the Kaaba, his thoughts with Allah, while Abu Jahl and the chiefs of Mecca filled the courtyard with cruel plans against Muhammad. With a cloth around the neck, twisted to strangle the Messenger, they aimed for death and even laughed, yet Abu Bakr ran from a distance to offer help. He pushed the tyrant aside, faced the enemies of Islam who beat him with severe force until he fell senseless and was carried home for many hours. His first question was if the Prophet was un-hurt, showing that despite his suffering, he was glad to save the Prophet’s life.

I think of how Abu lived with kindness, and I try to follow that example. Bakr’s faith and wealth became a rescue for the helpless. He bought Muslim slaves from inhuman masters and set them free. Among them was Bilal, who later became the well-known Muazzin giving the call to prayer in the Prophet’s Moque.
